Students from Across Australia Showcased Their Cyber Skills, with Canberra Leading the Way.
On August 3-4, PECAN+ 2024 brought together over 400 students from across Australia for a cyber security training and competition weekend. Hosted at ANU and the University of Canberra, students from years 10 to 12 learned key cyber skills from Proactive Labs and Ionize professionals. Day 1 focused on foundational skills, while Day 2 featured a state vs. state capture the flag challenge.
Canberra schools dominated the competition, winning more than half of the prize categories. In the Beginner division, Radford College’s JBBS team took first place, with Byte Knights from Radford College securing second and Speedy Turtles from Burgmann College finishing fourth. In the Advanced division, Canberra Grammar Alpha claimed fourth place. Special recognition goes to top female teams Shreehadcovid from Burgmann College in the Beginner division and CGS_Err418 from Canberra Grammar School in the Advanced division. Additionally, the ASD Challenge was successfully solved after time by MrClickityCane and Fish.png from Narrabundah College.
Thanks to our hosts, ANU-ASD Co-Lab and the University of Canberra, and sponsors, including Teron Labs, Cyconsol, and Career Panel attendees from CyberCX, AWSN, Teron Labs, Solution Tech, ASD, and the University of Canberra-Cisco partnership. The event highlighted student talent and the importance of diversity in cyber. We look forward to next year!
